The PPMS system and associated electronics, with Jimi keeping watch. At the far right, you can see the 3He insert for reaching temperatures of ~300mK. Next to that, the grey cylinder is the PPMS cryostat, which contains the sample chamber and 7T superconducting magnet. The rack on left side houses the electronics for measuring dI/dV and IETS spectra. At the far right is a stray electromagnet we use occasionally for simpler experiments.

The central part of the lab house a spectroscopic ellipsometer (right corner), a ferroelectric tester and probe station (center left), and sample preparation and storage space

This is where we’re building up the noise setup ... most of the shielding is missing for the moment, but that awesome LeCroy scope and the little black PAR amps are the heart of it.

Sample wiring space. Note the large grounding pad. Also note that it is clean; if you leave a mess behind we’ll hunt you down.

For a while, I had some undergrads learning to build audio electronics in the lab. Shown are James Hunter Adams (playing) and Johnathon Kentros testing their practice amp and distortion pedal. They both worked beautifully, by the way :-) Here’s a short clip of Hunter playing. Sorry for the poor resolution; taken with my phone ...
