The ccso  requires that student organizations  keep order according to  Roberts rules of order. We will be keeping order in this manner at all future meetings.

The email has been updated and is up and running. To be added to the mailing list please email spectrum@ua.edu

The Ferguson center will close at 6 pm on the weekends for the rest of the summer.

The next meeting will be held on June 2nd at 3:00 pm

We will be adopting a two advisor system so there will be at least one advisor at all meetings. Two candidates will be brought to the next meeting. It will be up to the members of Spectrum to vote on the two advisors.

The Spectrum constitution makes room for grad students to become members. We would like to reach out and include more grad students and do more for them. There is currently on one organization for queer grad students which is Outlaw but is only for law students. Besides Outlaw the only other glbt group on campus is the faculty staff group called The Way of Pride. We would like to involve grad students more and reach out to them. Roselyn Miller who works in graduate student services would like to have more outreach to queer grad students. We need an undergrad representative for the grad students. Our group has a feel of undergrad group many grad students want to become be involved but now feel like outsider. Perhaps nontraditional student might be better grads might feel more comfortable with them.

One of the main goals of the group is to clearly identify queer allies. Another goal of the group is, because the queer community in Tuscaloosa is very small, to become an oasis for new and existing queer people in Tuscaloosa. One of the reasons our community is so strong is because we take everybody, we take all queer people.

Tasks on the table. Josh asks that people think about these and be prepared to step up into these roles at the next meeting.

  1. Most important. The group needs  to prep for freshman outreach for 07/08. 5000 students will be coming in in the fall semester. These students will be of various states of decision making.  We need to get ready for this new influx of students. Orientation is out, no student organization can campaign during orientation. Week of welcome is the week before fall semester starts. Freshmen will be on campus week before school starts. There will be a block party with music, food, people from campus, student groups are allowed to set up a table saying this is who we are and what we are about. There will be no parents which is a good thing for us.  We want to also be ready for get on board day. Student organizations are allowed to do electronic outreach for new students. Josh’s office will collaborate with a list of content about student organizations. We want to use electronic outreach in a way this new generation understands. If they find us on facebook write on walls. Talk with them. We need 3 or 4  people on this committee
  2. We nee a rep for the faculty staff group. A student who can commit to coming to meetings  throughout the year for collaborative projects
  3. We need 2 reps in group for safe zone
  4. Kendra Daily and Jonathon Meeks will be working on the website and keeping it updated. We have been listed on the national gay lesbian clearing house we are now their list.
  5.  We need to get updated on the  ccso (Coordinating Counsel of Student Organizations)
  6. UA programs Barrett Sullivan of controversial issues he wants our input
    1. Our group has been here since 1980
  7. Student Leaders Counsel Spectrum has a seat
  8. new sga office has queer friendly people in it
