GOAL FOR THE FUTURE OF SPECTRUM: EMBRACE OUR COMMUNITY!

 

NEXT MEETING WILL BE TUESDAY OCTOBER 16TH AT 7:OO P.M.

 

Introduction by Josh Burford (and quick plug for Modern Gay America Class)

 

Announcement of two permanent advisors:

John Peaslee

Mary Thornton

(Josh will act as interim facilitator until December)

 

We will begin elections for Spectrum officers at the next meeting.

 

~ University Archives officially archiving gay history on campus in Hoole Special Collections Library to celebrate first fully functioning GLBT group on campus – Fall 1982 - Gay Student Union (charter had 10 students and 16 faculty advisors whose jobs were at risk for supporting the group) 10 of the original 16 advisors are still on campus. We will celebrate opening of archives with honor to original members. David Miller Alabama GLBT Archives

 

Josh speaks about Non-discrimination policy. Capstone Alliance offers support to Spectrum. Josh vows to prepare members to officially adopt a new policy.

 

Official Adopt–A–Mile for Spectrum, from presidents mansion to BP. Spectrum Mile.

 

The head of grounds keeping said, upon assigning us our mile… “Thank goodness that Gay people got this mile, at least they care.”

 

Safezone is planning to train entire SGA

 

~Division of Group:

*Political – meet with President, Provost, SGA and Counsel. (With support of Faculty Senate, Capstone Alliance, and C.A.F.É.)

*Social – Get to know each other and connected to each other.

*Officers will be voted on at next meeting. Group will be headed by committees (as opposed to individual)

 

Josh speaks about unity and healing our fractured community. Recruit, recruit, recruit!

 

October 18th 2007 - Coming Out Day (entire week will be Coming Out Week)

John will plan a Party (fancy shmancy party perhaps ?)
