The brackets [ & ] are illustrative of the kind of punctuation required
and should not appear in the final version of your work.

Journal Articles – Journal Article citations contain the following items, listed in this particular order, with punctuation marks as indicated.

  1. Author’s Name[,]
  2. [“]Title of Article,[”] {Entire title is enclosed in quotation marks and a comma is placed inside the last quotation mark.}
  3. Journal Title {Italicized}
  4. Volume or issue number {Arabic Numerals, 1,2,3,…}
  5. [(]Publication Date[)][,]
  6. Page number[.]

Example:

    1 John Q. Smith, “Once Upon A Time in Lee County: Almost A Championship,” Journal of Alabama Studies 12 (August 2007), 29.

  1. Subsequent citations need include only the author’s last name[,] the [“]Article Title[,”] and page number[.].  Journal title is omitted.

    Examples:

    1 John Q. Smith, “Once Upon A Time in Lee County: Almost A Championship,” Journal of Alabama Studies 12 (August 2007), 29.

    2 Ibid.

    3 Ibid., 4.

    4 Jones, “The Alabama Legacy,” 10.

    5 Smith, “Once Upon A Time,” 30.
