Description - NGC 2983 is an excellent late barred S0 with a strong outer disk and only the slightest trace of structure. The (rs) refers to the two very weak arcs breaking from the ends of the bar. The bar itself is of the ``ansae'' type. The CSRG type interprets the outer disk light in terms of an outer ring/lens, using notation from Kormendy (1979).
Interpretation - NGC 2983 could be a highly evolved ringed barred spiral where a formerly prominent outer ring/spiral pattern has evolved to an indistinct lens.
