This website includes 2,853 photographs of 1,929 slabs/specimens of early Pennsylvanian-age amphibian trackways and other trace fossils salvaged from an abandoned surface coal mine in Walker County, Alabama. The specimens were collected by 24 members of the former Birmingham Paleontological Society (now the Alabama Paleontological Society) during the period January 2000 to July 2004. All images are copyrighted by the Alabama Paleontological Society. The database is divided into 24 "Database Summary" tables. To see what each column in each table means, click on the column heading. To see a photograph and any additional closeups, click on the UCM number.
The tracks are thoroughly discussed and highlighted in a published monograph: "Pennsylvanian Footprints in the Black Warrior Basin of Alabama".
