Current Undergraduates (in order of appearance in the lab!)

  • Undergrad Pic

    Candice Hovell

As a Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellow, she conducted a project examining the relationship mineralocorticoid gene expression in the brains of convict cichlids and social memory; has collaborated with Stephanie Wong on her graduate project to analyze female cichlid color patterns; is currently targeting a number of additional genes that are up- or down-regulated as a consequence of social experience

  • Undergrad Pic

    Kay Rainey

Is currently developing her own project on the environmental stimuli that trigger sexual differentiation in the mangrove rivulus. Collaborating with both Adam Fuller and Stephanie Wong on their graduate projects. Creating fish models to elicit behavior; behavioral observation and quantification.

  • Undergrad Pic

    Michael Merck

Rivulus behavioral quantification; examining differences in behavioral phenotype arising from changes in rearing environment; collaborating with Adam Fuller on his graduate project.

  • Undergrad Pic

    Robertson Pearce

Cloning and gene expression of inhibin; slated to work on fine-tuning simulation models of dominance hierarchy formation in social animals in collaboration with Tom Bertalan and Chelsea "Raulie" Raulerson; will collaborate with Matt May, Mark Nuttall, Richard Morris, and Alexander Thompson on a project examining the costs of aggression.

  • Undergrad Pic

    Alexander Thompson

Learning the ropes and poised to begin collaborating on rivulus projects and with Matthew May, Mark Nuttall, Richard Morris, and Robertson Pearce on a study investigating the costs of animal combat

  • Undergrad Pic

    Tom Bertalan

Collaborating with Robertson Pearce and Chelsea "Raulie" Raulerson on a simulation model that examines the development of social hierarchies in animals (see jobserverpub.tombertalan.com). Beginning work on expanding the project into a multi-level simulation by addressing cellular-level and neural-circuit-level dynamics as well as their population-level consequences.

  • Undergrad Pic

    Jake Powers

Collaborating with Kay Rainey on a project that examines environmental stimuli that trigger sexual differentiation in the mangrove rivulus.

  • Undergrad Pic

    Chelsea "Raulie" Raulerson

Will collaborate with Robertson Pearce and Tom Bertalan on refining a simulation model that examines the development of social hierarchies in animals

  • Undergrad Pic

    Annie Lennox

Is collaborating with Adam Fuller on developmental plasticity of behavior in the mangrove rivulus. In addition, Annie is developing a study to investigate the factors that might cause hermaphroditic rivulus to lay unfertilized eggs, thereby facilitating 'natural' outcrossing in the mangrove rivulus.

  • Undergrad Pic

    Sara Vaughn

Participating in a study investigating life history differences among different 'clonal' lineages of the mangrove rivulus derived from different geographical locations.

  • Undergrad Pic

    Ben Sinderman

Collaborating with Mark Garcia's team on brain gene expression patterns in anolis lizards following social experience.
