Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Technology Studies

 

Position:  Associate/Full Professor and Department Head of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Technology Studies [9-Month Appointment, Summer Supplement, Tenure Track]

 

The Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Technology Studies (ELPTS) has an engaging and energetic faculty and a talented student population. Our mission is to prepare ethical and reflective practitioners, researchers, and scholars for work in K-12, higher education, and other educational settings.  ELTPS offers Master’s, Specialist, and Doctoral degrees in several programs/concentrations: Educational Administration/Leadership, Higher Education, Instructional Leadership, Instructional Technology, Nurse Education, and Social and Cultural Studies.  ELPTS offers graduate level courses in these areas on campus, at the University of North Alabama, through distance learning, and at the Gadsden Center in Gadsden, AL and undergraduate service courses on the Tuscaloosa campus.  Through teaching and outreach the Department strives to promote the values, knowledge, and skills needed to improve education in the state and across the region; and through the scholarly activities of its faculty and students, it strives to contribute to national research.

 

We seek a dynamic chair who understands working with faculty, students, and administrators in a large research institution as we continue our efforts to advance in all facets of our work. 

 

Qualifications:

●    Earned doctorate in a specialization in the Department

●    Proven record of leadership, teaching, research, service, and successful external funding activities that would warrant the rank of professor or associate professor in the department

●    Knowledge of curriculum requirements and trends in the programs included in the department.

●              Ability to work effectively with people in a variety of educational settings

●    Commitment to diversity and excellence

●    Requisite expertise and experience in scholarly activity required for appointment at the associate or full level

 

Responsibilities:

●    Provide visionary leadership

●    Serve as an academic and administrative officer, collaboratively establishing the mission, objectives, and strategic plans for the ELPTS Department.

●    Lead and coordinate curriculum/program development and support service efforts

●              Assess departmental performance, focusing on high academic standards

●              Advise students and serve on dissertation committees as appropriate

●              Create annual class schedules

●              Develop budgets and manage departmental financial accounts

●    Conduct faculty and staff evaluations

●              Teach courses in one or more of the departmental program areas

●              Seek external funds

●              Serve on college, university, and state committees and councils

 

Salary:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience
