Omega Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International
Outstanding Senior, EORN and Graduate Student Award
I. Purpose
The purpose of the Epsilon Omega Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau
International Outstanding Student Award is to recognize one
outstanding undergraduate, senior, and graduate student of The
University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing (CCN) each
year. The award will be given to students who demonstrate outstanding
achievement and ability in the areas of scholarship, professional
involvement, and leadership.
II. Policy
The following criteria will be used by the CCN faculty who
are members of Epsilon Omega Chapter and by the Awards Committee
of the Epsilon Omega Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International
in identifying the student who will receive each award.
- Scholarship - In order to be eligible for the award, a student
must
have at least a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) (based on a 4-point
grading scale). In addition, other evidence of outstanding scholarship
will be considered, such as involvement in research projects,
independent study projects of a scholarly nature, publications,
and receipt of other academic awards and honors.
- Professional Involvement - It is expected that award recipients
will be active, contributing members of the Association of Nursing
Students or of other recognized nursing organizations.
- Leadership - Consideration will be given to the student's
leadership activities as manifested in one or more of the following
ways: involvement in university activities, involvement in community
organizations and activities, and/or involvement in nursing
organizations.

Epsilon Omega Chapter
Research Award
Purpose:
The purpose of this award is to encourage and financially assist
members of Epsilon Omega Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International
in research endeavors.
Policy:
This award is available on an annual basis to any member of the
Epsilon Omega Chapter who is conducting nursing research. Monetary
amount of the award shall be determined by the Research and Awards
Committee dependent on budgetary constraints. Funds may be distributed
to more than one individual during each year depending on availability
of funds and number of completed applications. Awards will be
provided by April 15 of each year. Decisions to award funds for
the same research project by April 15 of each year will be made
by the Executive Board upon receipt of another application form
and a progress report of the research.
Procedure:
- Any interested member should obtain an Application for Research
Assistance from the President of the Chapter or the chairperson
or member of the Research and Awards Committee.
- The application is to be submitted to the chairperson of the
Research and Awards Committee by February 15 of each year.
- The Research and Awards Committee will review all applications
for assistance and submit recommendations to the Executive Board
of the Chapter by November 30 of each year.
- 4.Final decisions regarding all requests rest with the Executive
Board.
- Applicants will be notified in writing by January 10 of each
year of the decision to financially assist in the research endeavor.
- By December 1 of each year, awardees will submit a progress
report to the Research and Awards Committee describing the progress
to date, and expected date of completion of the project. Upon
completion of the project, the awardee will submit a summary
of the results to the Research and Awards Committee as well
as a report of how the grant monies were spent.
- The awardee will acknowledge the support of Sigma Theta Tau
Epsilon Omega Chapter in any publications or presentations that
are based on the project.
- Upon completion of the project the Research and Awards Committee
will share a summary of the research with the Executive Board.
- If a decision is made not to complete the project, the investigator
will return unused funds to the Epsilon Omega Chapter of Sigma
Theta Tau.
