The Caldwell Lab - http://bama.ua.edu/~gcaldwel
Co-directed by Drs. Guy and Kim Caldwell, the Caldwell Lab continuously accepts inquireies from students interested in dedicating efforts to biomedical research into diseases of the nervous system including Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, dystonia, and epilepsy. Current efforts include discovery of drugs and genes associated with cures and causes of these disorders in collaboration with researchers at UAB, MIT, Harvard, UCLA, other biomedical labs, and the pharmaceutical industry.
Coursework is not an important criterion for acceptance into The Caldwell Lab, but it is expected that students maintain at least a 3.0 GPA to be considered. We do not take students beyond the start of their junior yaer and give preference to students that apply as freshmen. Interested students should write a short 1-2 paragraph essay by email outlining why they would like to work in the lab and how committed they are to being involved in the biomedical discovery process.
