• 12/10/2010: grades still haven't been posted -- some glitches with averaging program. I intend to get them posted today, though.
• 12/8/2010: Final exam has been graded. Solutions are on exam directory. Grades will be posted tonight.
• 12/4/2010: Solutions to last problem set (#8) are on the problem directory. Exam is Monday, Dec. 6, at 11:30 AM.
• 11/29/2010: Last problem set, #8, is on problem directory. Also, solutions are posted for Problem Set 7.
• 11/12/2010: THERE IS NO CLASS MONDAY or Wednesday, Nov. 15&17. Problem Set 7 is due at 5PM today. I'll try to post solutions tomorrow. I'll see you next Friday (class is at the regular time, 1-2 PM, Nov. 19).
• 11/5/2010: Problem set 7 is on web, same as hard copy handed out except that poor notation (using K to mean two different things) is improved. Scale on 2nd midterm was C<50<B<70<A.
• 11/2/2010: Exam is tomorrow. Solutions ProblemSet6.Solns.xls is on problem set directory.
• 10/27/2010: ProblemSet6.hint is on problem set directory. Note that the wrong cell is labeled L20 (L20 is the normalized U+, 3 columns further to the right). On the second page, the displacement graph shows 20 units of distance, but a=2 units so it is 10a, half of the wavelength. Thus only half of a complete cycle is shown.
• 10/26/2010: Exam date has been changed from Nov. 1 to Nov. 3. There will be a makeup class period from 2-3 this Wednesday (Oct. 28). That is, we will meet TWICE on that day, once from 12-1 and again from 2-3. Problem set 6 is on the problem set directory, and is due next Monday Nov. 1.

• 10/10//2010: Problem Set 3 is due this afternoon at 5. Problem Set 5 is on the homework page. It is due Oct. 18. Powerpoint notes from Friday on elasticity (Lecture21) are posted.
• 9/27/2010: Schedule for the rest of the week: No class Wednesday, test Friday. Solutions posted for Problem Set 3.
• 9/25/2010: Another small correction: in part (e), "energy per atom" should be "energy per molecule". N is the number of molecules, 2N is the number of ions.
• 9/24/2010: There is a new version of Problem set 3 in which part (i) is clarified to "Does the anion or the cation appear to have the larger effect on n? Assuming the value of n is giving information mostly about this ion, can you say how n varies with atomic weight? Do larger values of n indicate a harder or softer core? Which has a harder core, F or I?"
• 9/21/2010: Problem set 3 is posted in the homework directory.
• 9/20/2010: Exam is Oct. 1, next Friday. I will be gone next Wednesday (actually gone Tuesday-Sunday) and the test will be proctored by Prof. Sarker. There will be no class Wednesday, Sept. 29. Exam will cover Chapters 1-3 (not including elastic waves). Problem Set 3 will be out today and due Monday, Sept. 27.
• 9/10/2010: Due date has been fixed on new Probset2.pdf (it is due in 2010, not 2009).
• 9/7/2010: Homework #2 is posted, due Sept 15 (a week from Wednesday).
• 9/4/2010: We may switch the Friday time back to 1-2. Let me know if that is inconvenient. We will still meet 12-1 on Monday and Wednesday.
• 9/4/2010: Problem Set 2 is now on the homework directory (link above). Latest lecture .ppt is uploaded too.
