Schredl et al. report that training increased interrater reliability for many but not all scales often used in dream content analysis. While training increased reliability for scores assessed at the nominal level of measurement (e.g., presence or absence of verbal interaction), training did not improve reliability for scores on some ordinal level variables, especially variables for which coders are permitted to infer the presence of content features that are not explicitly mentioned (e.g., negative emotions).
