Gottschalk, Louis A., and Robert J. Bechtel. "Computerized Content Analysis of Speech Plus Speech Recognition in the Measurement of Neuropsychiatric Dimensions." Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine 77, no. 1 (2005): 81-86.

Gottschalk and Bechtel explore the possibilities of using commercial speech recognition software to replace the manual preparation of transcripts required by their software Psychiatric Content Analysis and Diagnosis (PCAD). The results are mixed. The speech recognition software often misses words and phrases. Because PCAD score calculations rely heavily on word counts, for some variables there is a substantial difference between scores based on automated transcription and scores based on manual transcription.
