MacLin, Otto H., and M. Kimberly MacLin. "Coding Observational Data: A Software Solution." Behavior Research Methods 37, no. 2 (2005): 224-331.

MacLin and MacLin detail their Observational Data Coding System (ODCS), a software package they have made available free of cost (see http://www.uni.edu/~maclino/software/odcs). ODCS supports real-time human coding of digital audio and video files. MacLin and MacLin compare ODCS to similar software packages (e.g., Observer Video-Pro). They also provide an example of how ODCS can be used to code video of people in conversation.
