Software is probably the biggest part of the Year 2000 problem. Software includes everything from your operating system (such as Windows or the Macintosh OS) to the applications you use daily, like your word processor or spreadsheet. So, even if your hardware is Y2K compliant, non-compliant software may cause you some major headaches in the new year. For most people, the best thing you can do is to keep checking vendors' Year 2000 statements and apply any recommended patches or upgrades. Note that these statements may change as we get closer to the Year 2000, so you should check often to make sure you are up-to-date. To assist you in this task, Seebeck Computer Center is making every effort to stay abreast of the changing Year 2000 statements of major software in use at the University of Alabama. We offer a complete table that lists all of the information we currently have, and we also have the capability to produce a custom report, printing only the information for the products you choose. Each entry will give a link to the Year 2000 compliance statement, if available, as well as a brief description of its status. If you cannot find the software information you are looking for, please let us know by calling the HelpDesk at 348-2435 or sending e-mail to y2k@ua.edu and we will assist you. |
