Get on the Ball is an annual event in which a giant inflated ball is pushed around campus and signed by members of the student body. Local businesses donate money for each signature on the ball. In spring 2010, ZBT and Phi Mu raised over $10,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network. Every year we aim higher, so the sky’s the limit.
This year, for our annual crawfish boil fundraiser, we joined with the sisters of Alpha Delta Pi. The event was held on our biggest weekend of the year -- South of the Border. We have a beach in our backyard with sand, volleyball, live music, and even a waterslide. We raise money for the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham. Ronald McDonald House program provides a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost.
Our houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night to rest. It also allows families to face the weight of illness together and allows children to get the best of care. We raised over $3700 from the event.
In Fall of 2011, we participated in the Ole Smokey Sausage Festival with the brothers of Delta Kappa Epsilon and the sisters of Phi Mu and Kappa Kappa Gamma. We raised money for the UA Acts of Kindness Fund for students, faculty, and staff affected by the tornado on April 27, 2011. We had a hot dog eating contest where people competed for prizes. Vineyard Vines sponsored the event.
This year we held our first annual “Fight for Might” cookout for muscular dystrophy. We partnered up with the sisters of Delta Zeta in an effort to raise money for research to find a cure for muscular dystrophy. We held the cookout at the ZBT house. All brothers and sisters helped sell tickets and donate money toward the cause, and people also donated at the door. We had great food and live music at the event. We raised over $3700 for the event!
