The Year 2010-11 in Physics

How can the Section help you?  Please contact any officer to help us help you.  There will be a “mini Section Introduction” during the ASTA meeting (https://fp.auburn.edu/asta/) at the McWane Center in Birmingham on Oct 26.  Come and help us recruit new members to our Section.  The Section Officers also want your input to plan a meeting Spring Semester that meets your needs.

Take time to answer these questions and email them back to eholsenbeck@alasu.edu or to any officer.  (Attached in separate document)

1.  Which month in the spring do you prefer to have the meeting?

2.  What format works best for you?

3.  Would you donate door prizes or to a silent auction?

4.  Would you volunteer for set-up, clean-up, presider, presenter, host, etc?

5.  What other suggestions or questions do you have?

For Your Enjoyment!

http://www.airspacemag.com/multimedia/videos/Go-For-Launch.html

Here we have the shuttle being prepared for launch in time-lapse photography.  Notice the small wiggle that the shuttle has when it is rotated.  If you knew how fast the time lapse is, you could calculate the period of the shuttle as a torsional pendulum.  It's just a large, expensive simple harmonic oscillator!
